Qubus

Design with a punchline

Qubus Design Studio was started in 2002 by (now infamous duo) Jakub Berdych Karpelis and Maxim Velčovský. Their ironic pieces, which often criticized consumerism and made fun of pop-culture, had become a synonym for young Czech design and a staple of shops and galleries all around the world.

If you struggle to remember seeing some of their work, let us remind you of a porcelain version of the cheap paper sausage trays, porcelain Wellingtons, cups that look like the bottom of a PET Coke bottle or a bowl in the shape of the Czech Republic . Familiar, right?

In 2011, Maxim Velčovský left to work on other projects, but the Qubus brand remained one of the market's leaders. Currently, the studio focuses mainly on interior design and architectural projects, as well as on representing Czech design abroad.
