Pigmentarium

Brand

The first Czech independent perfume house made its debut in Prague in the autumn of 2018 with the Ad Libitum fragrance. Brand creation is strongly influenced by the outlook of the young generation on the fundamental artistic direction and lifestyle of the Czech Republic in the first half of the twentieth century. Functionalism, modernity, and avant-garde are interpreted by scents and contemporary means of expression. The Pigmentarium portfolio, which is growing with a new perfume every year, also consists of interior fragrances and design objects. Perfumes characterized by the highest quality of essences and high concentrations, capture intense emotions, and often portray familiar forms with a new perspective Scented sticks that tell epic stories of distant roads and pair with custom design objects. The brand creates its products with the utmost attention to craftsmanship and sustainability. This is made possible by the essential cooperation with small, mostly local, family-run businesses. Through close and well-targeted collaboration with artists from various fields, the Pigmentarium House has been replacing traditional forms of communication from the beginning and has thus acquired an ever-evolving, unmistakable signature and style.

Big life questions

WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY?

Ups and Downs.

HOW DO YOU PREFER TO SPEND SUNDAY AFTERNOONS?

With my dog.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO SHOW YOU THEIR ARTISTIC SKILLS (in any field such as art, music, painting, glass, ceramics, architecture…), WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Marie Pravda, because she knows how to beautifully mix techno and elevate it to an intellectual level. The way she works with the repetitiveness of music and develops each set into multiple layers that complement each other is incredibly inspiring. In life, a certain persistence and repetition are essential; without it, there is no progress, no practice, and no foundation that allows us to move forward.

WHAT OR WHO HAS RECENTLY INSPIRED YOU AND WHY?

Former Google CEO Mo Gawdat, who has now ventured into well-being. What inspires me most is his theory on "ceiling." Ceiling what we actually need in life to be happy. Everything else is extra and often at someone else's expense. I ask myself how many material possessions, friends, and trips are necessary to find happiness. Probably none of it, almost certainly not. It's about balance.

WHAT MUSIC OR BOOKS ARE YOU CURRENTLY LISTENING TO/READING? WHO ARE YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS/WRITERS?

I'm currently reading several books at once. The one that resonates with me the most is "Rozložíš Paměť" by Marek Torčík. When I need to hit a calmer and more introspective note, I open "Počkej na moře" by Veronika Opatřilová. In music, it varies. Sometimes I feel schizophrenic. I can enjoy 2000s RnB, Berghain electro, but also Bach by Yo-Yo Ma. I just secretly hope that everything is of good quality.

WHAT ALBUM OR SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AS THE SOUNDTRACK OF YOUR LIFE OR CREATIVE PROCESS?

I don't know if it's the soundtrack of my life, but at various stages, I have always returned to "Saint Pablo" by Kanye West. I strongly disagree with some of his statements and actions, but should that mean I stop appreciating his work? The way he works with blending genres and religious themes never ceases to amaze me. Moreover, the internal dialogue and conflicting feelings his music evokes in me are positive in accepting opposing views and being able to discuss them.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR WORK/DESIGN, DO ANY SPECIFIC EMOTIONS COME TO MIND?

Always! Scent cannot be separated from emotions.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES (not just in CZ)?

Every independent bookstore in any city. Peace, inspiration, thoughts. I increasingly see books and independent magazines as a mirror of the times.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION AND WHY?

I love Venice. I love returning there. I love getting lost there.
